The Psalmist remarked on the attitude with which christians should come to God’s presence. He started with entering into His arena with thanksgiving and walking into His abode with praise. “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and to His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name” (Psalms 100:4). Many people appear before God with their loads of request and complaints about what God is yet to do for them. Only very few people remember to thank and bless Him for Who He is, what He has done and what He is capable of doing.
Apostle Paul, while addressing unrighteousness among the Roman church, observed that it was a matter of the heart. He opined that despite having the head knowledge of God, their hearts were not aligned with God. Instead of glorifying and thanking God; they were futile in thoughts, lacked direction and focus. “… because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (Romans 1:21). Beloved, I want you to think retrospectively on the journey of your life so far. Have you, at one point or the other, enjoyed God’s manifold grace and mercies? If yes, what has been your attitude towards God? Don’t you take for granted His protection, provision, promotion, and even your breath? Do you come back each time, with a thankful heart, to say ‘Thank You Father’? We often miss out on many divine blessings because of our inability to thank God for His mercies. Furthermore, when we thank God for His miraculous acts in our lives, He is poised to do more. In the book of Luke chapter 17; only one of the ten lepers, who were healed by Jesus Christ, came back to thank Him. “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and he fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks, and he was a Samaritan” (Luke 17:15-16). Jesus was even surprised that only one out of the ten returned to thank Him for the healing. The truth is that God expects you to be grateful for all He does for you. Nothing is too small to be thankful for! You got to thank Him for the breath under your nostril. Many people are just lying on the hospital bed, surviving on oxygen. Are you better than them?
Friend, don’t be thankful to God only when your tank is full! I mean thanking God should not be only when things are rosy for you. Be thankful to God and let your soul bless Him at all times. Cultivate this attitude as the year is gradually coming to an end. God bless you. SHALOM.
