Strength in Obedience

Obedience to God is a powerful source of strength. In a world that encourages independence and self-reliance, it can be challenging to surrender our will to God. However, the Bible makes it clear that true strength comes from obeying God's commands and walking in His will. *“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says”* (James 1:22).

Obedience is not always generally easy. At times, God’s instructions may seem contrary to our desires. The Master Himself told His disciples: *“If you love me, keep my commands.”* (Jn. 14:15). Jesus teaches us that obedience is an expression of love for Him. When we choose to follow God’s directions, even when they are difficult, we show our devotion to Him. This obedience, rooted in love, brings us the strength we need to face challenges and overcome obstacles. When we obey God, we also position ourselves to receiving His blessings and favour. Obedience opens the door to God’s blessings, not just for us, but also for those around us (Deut. 28:1-2). In times of uncertainty or hardship, obedience strengthens our faith. Apostle Paul admonished the church at Rome- *“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”* (Rom. 5:3-4). When we obey God, even in the midst of trials, we are developing perseverance and character that will equip us for the future. Obedience, then, becomes a process of spiritual growth, where our trust in God deepens, and His strength becomes evident in us. Obeying God is also a testimony to the world. Matthew 5:16 instructs us: *“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”* Our obedience to God’s commands becomes a witness to those around us, pointing them toward God’s goodness and faithfulness. Ultimately, strength through obedience is about trusting God’s plan for our lives. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your paths straight.”* When we obey God, we trust that His plan is perfect, and He will guide us on the path He has set before us.

Beloved, it is through our willingness to follow God’s commands that we experience His strength. Obedience is not just about following rules – it is about aligning ourselves with God’s will, trusting His heart, and receiving the strength to live out His purposes. God bless you.
